Graeme McKnight, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern
Graeme (gram) is the type of person with a lot of real-life experiences, and many of these experiences are precisely the reason one might seek counseling. His history serves him and allows him to be relatable and insightful. He has proven he has the will to overcome various difficulties that one may face. He approaches a challenge with a smile and is still willing to help others. He fought for his country, and for his highly specialized education in the pursuit of mental health for all of humanity. A friend summarizes him as “A giver, and a provider, to his very core”.
He favors the analogy of counselors being a "stow-away" upon the client's ship. The client is the captain, and sessions or topics go where the client desires. However, every now and then, the stow-away may point out areas of concern or sights on the horizon.
Message from Graeme
“My ideal client is a person willing to be vulnerable, open, and honest with themselves. Additionally, I hope the individual is motivated to explore and (re)discover the power and strengths they may already have, as well as learn new techniques, strategies, and strengths they can acquire. I trust that my client(s) are willing to allow a counselor to assist them along their journey. If you feel stuck, frustrated, exhausted, or "lost at sea" from life's struggles reach out and know that you are not alone.”
